Access
Controls for Offices, Businesses, Homes & Outdoors
Offices,
Business’s, Homes, even outdoor areas, all need access control.
This has led to burgeoning business for installers, as these areas
are now dominated by electronic solutions. Access control is a
huge subject because it can be extended to embrace all electronic
security techniques by integrating with other technologies, particularly
intruder and CCTV.
Such systems are becoming increasingly prominent not only in
the management of entrances and exits but also in the monitoring
and screening of personnel within defined areas. Such systems
extend to the collection of data, the movement patterns of users
and the integration with other security functions and building
management services.
The most basic form of electronic access control is a very simple
domestic system intended to protect a locked but low security
door, where a visitor can be interrogated at a local point by
means of a simple intercom
At the further end of the scale are the intelligent computer
based barrier and multi-door high security systems with remote
surveillance and multiple users, with extra facilities for visitors.
The fore mentioned is usually classed as a door entry kit, but
it still forms part of access control engineering. The latter
system will involve the use of many readers, which personnel are
checked as to their right to enter into a prescribed area, with
all transactions logged on a database.
It follows that the electronic access control engineer must carry
out diverse activities including installing mechanical locks and
barriers and yet still be capable of programming systems.
